Released last year, "The Maze Runner" is about the teenagers who are trapped in the heart of a maze.
In reality, they are the guinea pigs in a scientific society that studies to understand how they were able to survive and not be infected, following a virus that ravaged the world. A teen movie in the tradition of the Hunger Games, and I love this kind of movies especially when it's successful. Few weeks ago, "The Scorch Trials" was released. And the real question is whether it has any interest ...
Thomas, Minho, Teresa, Newt and the others were rescued from the clutches of Wicked. They are taken to a desert and there they discover they are not alone: many other teens have experienced the same thing and were saved. But soon heroes mess up. They discover they are being manipulated from the beginning and from guinea pigs, they now have the status of cattle to sacrifice. Thomas and his friends decide to escape. But outside, danger lurks: the virus highly communicable, transforms people into ferocious and violent zombies. We then believe we're watching "The Walking Dead".
The only solution for the small resistance group: join the rebels in the mountains ... Forget the tone of the first film. Forget even the synopsis, told like that, it looks like a simple next sequence without genius. "The Scorch Trials" is a big surprise and amazing. Exit the little teen movie with some action scenes.
Exit-nicks bickering between protagonists. Oh, there will be one or two throughout the film, but they are totally sidelined. Here is a real survival movie. And a rather creepy survival film. The first part of the saga was panting and did not lack pace.
This suite continues on a rapid pace.
The group left the maze. This is a post apocalyptic world that awaits them. It is also visually very successful. New allies will emerge but there are many adversaries. Among the monsters, former human patients roam the dark and wicked pharmaceutical consortium, our heroes will have to work hard to survive.
The film wants kneaded action, we begin to learn that they are champions of the sprint!
The characters are fairly engaging, not really Machiavellian villains but the serum is effective. Certainly, the events that follow one another are fairly predictable. The only small complaint I have about the film, is that it ran out of steam once in a while, but fortunately not long enough for us to lose it! Moreover, this second part surprised me by events and creatures involved there!
It is also more "violent" as the first part, but without going overboard! Moreover, the tension that had been felt at the beginning is also found in almost all of the film, we wonder whether or not in the expected times. We therefore do not know who or what to expect and the film allows many lovely surprises. Finally, the "famous" casting, still mostly composed of young actors! Young actors already present for most in the first installment of the franchise, and remain again very convincing!
Which brings us to a result of better quality and a more mature film. Here, no silly romance and it's for the best.
This is especially the acting skills of Dylan O'Brien (aka Stilinski Stiles) who commented! It was one of my main expectations ! Just for him, the film is worth a look!
Finally, "The Scorch Trials" is a very good result! Wes Ball did a very good job by offering the film what it needed! Excellent special effects, a stakeholder atmosphere and rhythm that wavered only slightly! Small special mention for music, which without being transcendent, blends in well with the universe and everything goes well.
