I must say I was quite amazed at how far this film went. Apparently all is well, our heroine is shy and has a talent she hides to everyone, she is in love with a handsome too stupid kid who himself date the popular high school mean girl. Then Jaimie (heroin so) will become incredibly popular quickly with a book she wrote and which becomes a bestseller (I laugh!) Of course on the way she doesn't forget :
1. To completely neglect her two best friends, one is green activist.
2. To continue to fall for the handsome hunk without realizing that her best friend is in love with her, and they are made for each other.
3. dressing up more and more in pink as the film advance.
4. make a big mistake that will make everyone hates her.
5. apologizing with a touching speech delivered at the end of year prom.
Well now I think we can sum up a good 96% of the Disney Channel production, with these few lines, no worries.
BUT there is a novelty, and it's a strange thing, we can see how great and / or completely creepy depending on perspective. The thing is that they have decided to make the heroine a schizophrenic. Yeah, like that. Jaimie then develops during the film an alter-ego, corresponding to an idealized version of herself, an alter-ego that will end up taking more and more space in her life to the point of controling her. And they pushed the trick so far, I mean the girl talking to herself in the street and everything. Seriously, I really expected that she shoots herself at the end.
It's weird enough like that, but what helps make the movie even more creepy is that everything is treated in the Disney Channel way, all candy pink, as if nothing had happened. Moreover, even if the film shows us that she talks to herself, the characters seem to not cara at all. In fact it looks like they did not want to take until the end, the heroine is crazy ok, but the important is that the other characters don't realize it otherwise it will become REALLY weird huh? Huh ?? Apart from this minor detail (it's still huge in fact!), The film is quite "normal" in the standard of Disney Chanel Original Movie. The film is also a bit painful because Jaimie, (which is fortunately not as unbearable as Harriet) really puts a lot of time before realizing she was a bitch with her family and that she needs to apologize.
And I love films done with shade, overnight ALL high school students have the book in hand, she is super popular but she was completely ignored just before. Then as soon as she makes a mistake, everyone starts hating (except fop who is probably too dumb to understand what is happening around him).
So here was this film quite commonplace but with the detail that kills everything that makes this movie even more murky than it would normally have been. And see everyone make big smiles as if nothing had happened except that this girl could overnight seize a knife and kill all, one by one, brrrrr. They have serious issues at Disney Channel!
